Los Angeles Music Workshops
Free supportive music classes for pianists, singers and actors who need special skills to get to the next level. Workshops are for both beginning level and advanced level. Learn chord-reading for self-accompanying, how to put melody to lyrics, how to sing harmony, piano improvisation, playing different styles and how to memorize music. These free piano lessons workshops are taught by Howard Richman and other expert instructors in Los Angeles County.

The following workshops are on Saturdays at 4:30 for one hour each. They indeed are COMPLETELY free. Why are they free? The free classes are a fun way for you to get a taste of Howard Richman’s unique teaching style. You may learn exactly what you need in the workshop, or you might be inspired to continue learning through private lessons.
The following series of six classes occur on a rotating basis. You can start the series at any point. You can come to one or all classes. Reservations are preferred (see below.)

A Chord-Reading for Self-Accompanying. Professional musicians often read chord symbols rather than notes. This allows them to create their own style rather than being limited to the standard notation. Learn the easy chord formulas for major, minor, diminished, and augmented chords. Learn what 7th chords are. Learn how easy it is to accompany yourself singing once you can play by chords! Reserve your space here.
B Learn to Play Different Piano Styles. When you play piano does it just sound dead? In this one class you can learn some amazing tricks to kick your playing level up several notches. Learn how to take the same chords and make them sound Pop, Country, Gospel, Blues, R&B, Rock, Reggae, Hip Hop, Worship, Church, Hymns, Techno, 50s, Jazz, New Age, Folk, Broadway, Pop Ballade, etc! C How to Put Melody to Lyrics. You write poems and lyrics and sometimes you may hear melodies in your mind, but how do you match a melody to your lyrics? This enlightening workshop will show you some innovative techniques to create a commercial melody for your song and how to write it down, even if you don’t read music! Bring some of your lyrics, or even just a part of a song that you wrote - triple spaced between each line

D How to Sing Harmony. Some people have a knack for singing harmony. but did you know that there are mathematical formulas to getting the right harmony notes? Once you understand these concepts, you’ll be on your way to singing backup to your friend’s tracks or even your own! Reserve your space here.
E Piano Improvisation - Exploring Creativity at the Piano. Can you turn off your mind? Believe it or not, when you learn to “fool around” at the piano, you will get your best ideas for your million dollar hit. “Free improvisation” is like musical doodling. Learn to activate your creative genius by tuning into your “higher self” or “spirit guides” or “God.” (Whatever your

F How to Memorize Music. Did you know that there is a visual memory, an aural memory and a kinesthenic (muscular) memory? Learn how you can honor your natural strength while also developing your inherent weaknesses. About Howard Richman.
Howard Richman has pioneered innovative teaching strategies in the fields of music education and stress-management since 1976. Mr. Richman is the author of the popular book, Super Sight-Reading Secrets. He
has a B.A. from UCLA in piano performance and an M.F.A. (Master Fine Arts) degree from California Institute of the Arts, where he also taught on the faculty for three years. He continues to teach about 40 private students weeekly. Mr. Richman’s specialty is to help people break through their most stubborn blocks.
